Rumen function and grazing behavior of early-lactation dairy cows supplemented with fodder beet

چکیده

Fodder beet (FB) is a source of readily fermentable carbohydrate that can mitigate early spring herbage deficits and correct the negative energy balance experienced during lactation in pastoral dairy systems New Zealand. However, low-fiber high-soluble content both FB bulb are factors promote subacute ruminal acidosis, impairing rumen function limiting marginal milk production response to supplement. In crossover experiment, 8 Holstein Friesian × Jersey early-lactation cows were used test effect supplementing 16 kg dry matter (DM) grazed perennial ryegrass with 6 DM/d (FBH) versus only (HO) on changes grazing behavior. Following 20 d adaptation diets, DM disappearance (%) (FBH only) measured sacco, separately. Cows fasted overnight, contents bailed following morning (~0930 h) again determine pool size volatile fatty acids, ammonia, particle digesta, as well estimate rate outflow degradation neutral detergent fiber. The FBH diet did not alter intake, yield, or solid (fat + protein) compared HO. Supplementation reduced pH HO between ~0800 h 1300 each day. During period, 1 cow severe acidosis (pH <5.6 for >180 min/d) final target allocation. acetate but increased butyrate lactate When fed FB, rumination time intensity declined Despite rumination, comminution large particles 28% first second bailing when sacco 18% These results indicate supplemented (40% daily intake) increase mastication counteract due low fluid pH.

Ovarian function and estrus in dairy cows during early lactation.

The onset of ovarian function and occurrence of estms were monitored in two groups of Holstein cows over the first 90 days postpartum. Group 1 consisted of 36 animals housed in a free stall area and observed continuously for estrus with closed circuit television and a time lapse videorecorder. Group 2 consisted of 33 cows housed in tie stalls with estrus detected by the herdsmen. Blood samples ...

Milk production and composition, rumen fermentation parameters, and grazing behavior of dairy cows supplemented with different forms and amounts of corn grain.

The objectives were to compare milk production and composition, change in body weight and body condition score, rumen fermentation parameters and grazing patterns by cows when supplemented with different forms and amounts of corn grain. In experiment 1, 36 Holstein cows were supplemented with either 6, 6, 6, or 4 kg/d of dry matter of high moisture corn, coarsely ground corn, finely ground corn...

Field Study of Dairy Cows with Reduced Appetite in Early Lactation: Clinical Examinations, Blood and Rumen Fluid Analyses

The study included 125 cows with reduced appetite and with clinical signs interpreted by the owner as indicating bovine ketosis 6 to 75 days postpartum. Almost all of the cows were given concentrates 2 to 3 times daily. With a practitioners view to treatment and prophylaxis the cows were divided into 5 diagnostic groups on the basis of thorough clinical examination, milk ketotest, decreased pro...

Effects of rumen-protected γ-aminobutyric acid on feed intake, lactation performance, and antioxidative status in early lactating dairy cows.

The objective of this study was to investigate effects of rumen-protected γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on dry matter intake, milk performance, and serum metabolites in Chinese Holstein lactating cows. Thirty-nine multiparous cows were blocked based on days in milk (60 ± 6.3 d; mean ± SD) and milk production (30.9 ± 4.17 kg; mean ± SD), and were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 treatments, with rumen-p...

Productive and metabolic response to two levels of corn silage supplementation in grazing dairy cows in early lactation during autumn

Corn (Zea mays L.) silage (CS) is a nutritious food that can be used as a supplement in dairy cows. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of supplementation with two amounts of CS on milk production and composition, live weight and body condition, as well as on some blood indicators for energy and protein metabolism on dairy cows in early lactation and grazing low mass pasture durin...
